At least when I was a university student, I had no intention of commencing a business on my own. Initially, I was eager to become an elementary school teacher. Following a professor’s advice that my characteristics might be more suited to high school students, I changed my target age group. However, my dream was simply to be a school teacher until I actually started working as a part-time lecturer at a private high school. There, I found that there was always a strong emphasis on catering to highly motivated, high-achieving students—which was enjoyable, but diverged significantly from my ideals.
I did not want to rigidly adhere to the prescribed curriculum; instead, I wanted to honor the unique individuality of each student and class (because even within the same course, students’ learning skills, motivation, and ambitions varied drastically across a broad spectrum). Soon after I realized the futility of fighting against the curricula I was expected to follow, I resolved to commence my own business to support learners based on their individual skills and provide what they truly need.
